Inspira aims to banish old-school paper-driven mentality
Some healthcare organizations have been slow to embrace new IT, but the finance department at South Jersey Regional Medical Center – now part of the Inspira Health Network – wasn't one of them.
According to Tom Baldosaro, vice president of finance, "when I started a little over 12 years ago, every accountant here was old school. They just didn't do technology."
Ultimately, the finance department at South Jersey became the heaviest user of computers in the entire organization, to the point that it upgraded every 18 months.
In many ways, history is about to repeat itself. South Jersey, where Baldosaro worked for 12 years, merged this spring with Underwood-Memorial Hospital and the two are now part of the Inspira Health Network.
According to Baldosaro, merging the two finance departments will be "a unique challenge." The finance department at Underwood-Memorial is still "very paper driven," just as South Jersey was many years ago. Consequently, big steps will need to be taken to ensure that the new, combined department (now 36 employees) is as tech-savvy as it can be.
Baldosaro pointed to his "very motivated work force" as the key to a successful future, noting that at South Jersey Regional Medical Center his finance department regularly scored highest on the organization's annual employee satisfaction survey.
