Healthcare adds 24,000 jobs in November, home health workforce shrinks

Including November figures, healthcare organizations have added 470,000 jobs so far in 2015.

Healthcare added a modest 24,000 jobs in November, the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday, as hiring slowed following the massive job gains the sector saw in October.

Overall, the U.S. economy added 211,000 jobs in the month, and the unemployment rate held flat at 5 percent.

While the department last month said healthcare added 45,000 jobs in October, that number was adjusted in the latest report. Figures now show healthcare added 51,000 jobs in October.

Including November figures, healthcare organizations have added 470,000 jobs so far in 2015.

With so much hiring booked in October, November saw less activity on the job front. Hospitals added 13,400 jobs, by far the most in the sector but much less than the nearly 18,000 jobs added in October.

Ambulatory centers also saw a slowdown in November, adding just 4,200 jobs compared to the 27,000 jobs it created in October.

Only home health services lost positions in the month, shedding 1,200 jobs.
