Medistar looks to position new medical tower next to Texas Medical Center

The new tower house hospital, other services, will also be connected by a skybridge to a hotel and apartment building, Medistar says.

Medistar Corp. has announced plans to strategically position a new medical tower immediately adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, an immense medical complex with 50 million square feet of buildings on 1,345 acres that supports 10 million patient encounters annually, Medistar said.

Medistar's 550,000 square-foot medical tower will tout an expanded floorplate able to support a major medical care, oversized parking garage and retail at ground level. It has been has been designed to serve as a hospital and house doctor offices, ancillary services as well as other healthcare companies, and is connected by skybridge to a new 22-story tower also by Medistar that houses a hotel and apartments for the convenience of patients and visitors.

Medistar sought input from with doctors and other healthcare providers in the Texas Medical Center community in planning and designing the new tower.

"The residential and hospitality aspects of the project were designed to complement each other in meeting the needs of the diverse, vibrant Texas Medical Center community. This new medical tower further enhances the project with unparalleled walkable convenience to the Texas Medical Center, privacy and coordination of care – especially important to patients and families from across the U.S. and abroad."

Medistar is also in talks with other major healthcare companies looking grow their presence in the Texas Medical Center, Medistar said.
