News comes as more healthcare providers lean on these staff members.

News comes as more healthcare providers lean on these staff members.

Nurse practitioners today make more than $100,000 a year, a new report by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners shows, with average annual income up 10 percent since 2011.

More than 2,200 nurse practitioners responded to the AANP report.

According to the group’s responses, nurse practitioners who work 35 hours or more have seen base salaries top $97,000, up from $91,000 in 2011. Factor in other compensation, and nurse practitioners are making more than $108,000 a year.

The news isn’t surprising, as a looming physician shortage and efforts to improve access to care has more healthcare providers leaning on “physician extender” staff such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
