Only one hospital made all four recent top hospitals lists
Recent rankings by Healthgrades and Truven claim to list the best hospitals in the country for quality, safety, patient experience and finance.
Four recent rankings claim to list the best hospitals in the country for measures such as quality, safety, patient experience and financial management, yet only St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas was named to all four lists.
Healthcare Finance decided to track overlaps on these hospital lists after a March study in Health Affairs claimed the different variables in these “best of” rankings might be more confusing than helpful for consumers. Out of the big annual reports, only Healthgrades and Truven have released their 2015 lists. Leapfrog is expected to announce their rankings later this year.

But when looking at four lists released this year -- Truven’s Top 100, Healthgrades Top 100, Healthgrades Patient Experience Awards and Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Awards, we found it interesting that St. David’s was the only hospital named to all four.
Though it’s not that surprising either, considering St. David’s was one of four hospitals to win a 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which honors overall hospital excellence.
Healthcare Finance recently profiled St. David’s, looking at its cost controls and exploring its acclaimed robotic surgery program.

It will be interesting to see if St. David’s makes the Leapfrog list later this year.
