These 779 hospitals will actually receive Medicare bonuses [full list]

The Brookings Health System in South Dakota is one of 779 hospitals that will net a Medicare bonus.

There are Medicare penalties and bonuses, and many hospitals are finding themselves somewhere in between when it comes to their reimbursement rates for the bulk of 2015. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has announced 1,700 hospitals would earn bonuses under its Value-Based Purchasing program, a reward for quality of care -- some hospitals were penalized under the that program. But for the ones earning bonuses in the quality program, often that gain was offset by other Medicare penalties for either readmissions, hospital-acquired conditions or both.

So who is actually getting a bonus? The answer is at least 779 hospitals, for sure. Healthcare Finance has looked over the data provided by CMS and Kaiser Health News and pulled out the hospitals that will see a total positive change in their Medicare payments, adding together the value bonus with any readmissions penalties. We also only included the hospitals that did not receive penalties for hospital-acquired conditions as a result of medical errors.

The result is the list below, which shows the total change in payments for these hospitals for the Oct. 2014 to Sept. 2015 period.
