MaxMD adds HIPAA-compliant audit controls to basic secure service package
MaxMD, a provider of secure web services to healthcare organizations, announced it will enhance its basic secure email service with automatic HIPAA-compliant audit controls and a 30-fold increase in secure storage, to 3GB, for email archiving. The company said the expanded mdEmail service package would also incorporate mdSecureSend, a service that allows a patient, peer, or business associate to initiate inbound secure messages to an mdEmail user from any PC connected to the Internet.
Pricing for a basic mdEmail account, which already includes the '.md' domain registration and a one-page website with basic contact information and hyperlinks, will remain $150 a year. The enhancements will go into effect on or before September 20, said Scott Finlay, MaxMD CEO and co-founder.
"With the increase in HIPAA enforcement actions and fines, healthcare workers must have a simple, reliable, and inexpensive solution for secure, compliant electronic communication," said Finlay. "These enhancements to our basic package make mdEmail® a total solution that can be implemented in matter of minutes with negligible expense. Even without the compliance benefits, our services save customers thousands of dollars a year in postage and other costs."
