Billing vendors join forces to boost outsourcing options

Two providers of outsourced physician billing services are joining forces.

Advantedge Healthcare Solutions, a Warren, N.J.-based provider of physician billing and practice management services to hospital-based physician groups, other specialty physician practices and ambulatory surgery centers, has acquired AHP Billing Services, a Falmouth, Me.-based provider of outsourced billing and coding services.

The deal is expected to boost Advantedge’s offerings in pathology, radiology and multi-specialty billing for both hospital- and office-based physicians.

“AHS provides a unique opportunity for AHP customers,” said Lee Larson, AHP’s CEO, who will become a senior vice president for Advantedge and lead the company’s New England operations.. “Being part of a leading billing company with a significant customer base means our clients will have even more services and resources available to them, including the AHS InfoEdge dashboard and reporting tools. In addition, we can help expand AHS’ offerings … to an even greater number of customers.”

Company officials say the enhanced portfolio of billing services targets physician practices, less than 20 percent of which outsource their billing and practice management functions.

AHP Billing Services was created in October 2009, spun out of Anodyne Health Partners after that company’s business intelligence section was acquired by athenahealth. Advantedge officials said they immediately began talks with AHP about a deal.
