Kronos expands global reach with SMART acquisition
Workforce management firm Kronos announced Monday its acquisition of UK-based SMART Computer Holdings and its Spanish affiliate SMART Human Logistics.
Founded in 1986, SMART provides workforce management solutions such as time and attendance, staff scheduling and absence management to customers in the many sectors, including healthcare.
The transaction represents Kronos’ 64th acquisition and gives the Chelmsford, Mass.-based company its first physical presence in Spain.

According to Kronos CEO Aron Ain, the deal is in keeping with the company’s growth plans.
“An integral part of our growth strategy is global expansion, and the SMART acquisition significantly strengthens our presence in the EMEA (Europe, Midde East and Africa) region,” said Ain. “The acquisition provides us with instant leadership status in the UK healthcare market through SMART’s domain expertise and well-established base of NHS Trust customers. Bringing SMART into the Kronos family also establishes a physical presence for our company in Spain, a country with tremendous potential for growth for our workforce management solutions.”
SMART employees will continue to work from their current locations in Codicote, and Oldbury, UK and Madrid, Spain.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
