Hospitals help raise money and awareness for breast cancer

October is breast cancer awareness month and it is inspiring to see the good that can come when a few respected companies join forces to raise money for breast cancer research.

Caribou Coffee has developed their first cause-based coffee for the food service industry and proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation. The initiative is being called Cup with Purpose™ and it is a new coffee blend developed exclusively for the food service industry.

The Premier healthcare alliance is offering the new coffee blend to alliance members which include 2,500 hospitals and 77,000 other healthcare sites across the U.S. It is a way to expand the reach and hopefully increase overall fundraising dollars in the process.

“This type of effort is directly in-line with our mission to improve the health of communities,” said Susan DeVore, Premier president and CEO. “We’re proud to partner with Caribou and Susan G. Komen in ongoing efforts to heighten awareness, improve treatment methods and ultimately find a cure for this debilitating disease.”

So now, instead of just relying on individuals who come into their coffee shops, they can help raise funds through the coffee they sell to organizations. Let’s hope this idea catches on and other companies follow Caribou’s lead. What a great example of giving back to the community and helping to fundraise by purchasing a product that your hospital needed either way.
