Another half million consumers sign up in week 3 of open enrollment
Three weeks remain to get insurance in the federal marketplace.
Halfway through the open enrollment period, another half million consumers signed up in the federal marketplace during the week of November 15-21, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The number of consumers signing up in the past three weeks since open enrollment began November 1 is now 1.6 million. Of those 35 percent are new consumers to the federal marketplace and 65 percent represent those renewing coverage.
Close to three million people have submitted applications, with 2.3 million exploring their health insurance options by contacting a call center representative, CMS said. Seven million people have visited the healthcare.gov website, according to CMS.
Open enrollment has another three weeks remaining and will end December 15.
"More than 1.6 million consumers have selected coverage, including half a million new consumers and over a million existing marketplace consumers who have returned to shop, switch plans or choose their same plan for 2016," said Sylvia Burwell, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Healthcare.gov is used by the federally-facilitated Marketplaces and state partnership marketplaces, as well as some state-based Marketplaces.
