Cigna agreement expands retail clinic coverage option
Cigna HealthCare has expanded the number of retail clinics for which it covers treatment this week by announcing the addition of a chain with sites in Arkansas and Texas.
Cigna announced the addition of MedBasics Family Health Centers, with care centers in Carnival Super Markets in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas and USA Drug Stores in Little Rock, Ark.
Cigna covers care at a variety of retail clinic outlets, including MinuteClinic Inc., RediClinic, Take Care Health Systems, Little Clinic and Cigna Medical Group's CMG CareToday clinics.
The insurer said the addition of MedBasics to its network "underscores the company's commitment to expanding a broad suite of consumer-focused products and services designed to help members achieve their personal health goals."
With Cigna, retail clinic claims are processed at the same benefit level as an office visit to a primary care physician. For example, if a Cigna member's co-insurance for a physician visit is 20 percent and the cost of the service is $60, the member's out-of-pocket cost for a typical visit would be $12.
MedBasics CEO Brian Jones said his chain hopes to make similar agreements with other insurers. "We plan to reach agreements with health insurance companies in order to make our services accessible and affordable for more individuals," he said.
