Healthcare adds 40,000 jobs in June, most in ambulatory care

Ambulatory health centers added 22,600 jobs in June.

According to the Department of Labor, healthcare businesses added 40,100 jobs compared to adding 48,000 in May. In total, healthcare employed 15.1 million people in the month.

The healthcare industry added more than 40,000 jobs in June, a slight dip compared to the prior month, as the field continues to expand, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Thursday.

According to the report, healthcare businesses added 40,100 jobs compared to adding 48,000 in May. In total, healthcare employed 15.1 million people in the month.

The news came as the U.S. economy added 223,000 total jobs in June, with the unemployment rate dropping to 5.2 percent.

By far, ambulatory health centers saw the largest job increases, adding 22,600 jobs in June. Hospitals added the second most with 10,600 new jobs.

No healthcare division lost jobs in June, though outpatient care centers added the fewest with 2,500 new jobs.
