Healthcare employment continued to rise in December
Healthcare employment continued to increase in December, growing by 23,000, according to a report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Over the month, job gains continued in hospitals, which added about 10,000 jobs.

Other key areas of employment gains include:
- Ambulatory care – 14,237 jobs
- Physicians offices – 2,397 jobs
- Outpatient care centers – 635 jobs
- Home healthcare – 1,141 jobs
- Nursing and residential care facilities – 3201 jobs
Nationwide, both the number of unemployed persons (13.1 million) and the unemployment rate (8.5 percent) continued to trend down in December. Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 200,000 during the month.
