Healthgrades names 2018 clinical excellence awards; See the List

Healthgrades has doled out accolades in all but a dozen states with this year's Distinguished Hospital Awards for Clinical Excellence.

Healthgrades announced 250 recipients and said they say are among the top five percent in the nation that "deliver high-quality care across at least 21 of 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures" according to their analysis.

"From 2014 through 2016, if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, on average, 159,924 lives could potentially have been saved," Healthgrades said.

According to their analysis, patients treated in hospitals who received the award showed a roughly 26 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award for treatments across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.

There were a handful of states where Healthgrades did not honor any hospitals. Those states included: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, D.C., Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Wyoming.
