HealthSouth, University Medical Center Health partner on new Texas rehab hospital
University Medical Center Health has also named current COO Mark Funderburk as new incoming CEO.
HealthSouth Corporation and Texas-based University Medical Center Health System have announced a new joint venture that will yield a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Lubbock, Texas. The partnership and new hospital were greenlighted at a UMC Health System board of directors meeting Monday.
Construction will begin in spring 2018, and the hospital is expected to open to patients in spring 2019, pending regulatory approval. The hospital will provide rehabilitative services to patients who've suffered stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries and other major health events, the organizations said.
The new facility was made hospital through a $20 million community investment and will create more than 100 new full-time jobs.
UMC Health System is based in Texas and serves western Texas and eastern New Mexico with a workforce of roughly 3,800 that sees around 50,000 patients annually.

HealthSouth offers both facility-based and home-based patient care in 36 states and Puerto Rico through its inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, home health agencies, and hospice agencies.
UMC will also be welcoming Mark Funderburk as the new president and CEO in January, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Funderburk currently serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
