HFN Virtual Conference & Expo expands with broad, deep education sessions
This year’s Healthcare Finance News Virtual Conference & Expo is offering 33 percent more education sessions than were presented in last fall’s debut – increasing from nine to 12.
Last year saw roughly 1,000 visitors attend the event, and Healthcare Finance News Editor Richard Pizzi expects to see similar numbers this year.
The two-day event, produced in partnership with the Health Information and Management Systems Society, features a broad array of topics and deep dives into issues that are critical to healthcare executives as the industry undergoes a major transformation.
Education sessions range from ICD-10 and revenue cycle management to hospital construction and information technology. “There’s a real diversity to the offerings, making it valuable to various people in hospitals and physician offices,” said Pizzi, the opening keynote speaker.
Pizzi kicks off the virtual conference at 9 a.m. CST Wednesday with “Healthcare 2010 Revisited – and the Top Trends of 2011.” He will review the top healthcare finance stories of 2010 from the perspective of Healthcare Finance News readers and discuss 10 of the most important industry trends for 2011.
Pizzi highlighted a few education sessions. A handful of sessions on medical banking will be presented, drawing on the expertise of the HIMSS Medical Banking Project.
With increased government scrutiny and enrollees in public programs, the session “Managing the Medicaid and Charity Care Patient Population,” scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CST Wednesday, presents a major issue facing many hospitals today. Faith Polk, Medicaid program administrator for the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority, and Enrique Balaguer, senior vice president of TransEngen, Inc., will discuss how to effectively manage these programs.
Lori Donaldson, CFO of the UC San Diego Health System, will close the conference at 1:30 p.m. CST Thursday with her keynote, “UC San Diego Health System: Transforming Healthcare Delivery while Maintaining Financial Excellence.” She will discuss the strategies and vision developed by the health system to take advantage of its particular market opportunities and challenges.
Attendees can also learn about products and services, chat with vendor representatives, access white papers and case studies and view video presentations and demonstrations at the Exhibit Hall, which is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST Thursday.
Attendees can also meet and chat with speakers, colleagues and vendors in the relaxed setting of the networking lounge.
