Clinical decision support, such as what is offered by Wolters Kluwer, handles the avalanche of information providers and physicians need to stay informed.
The information-services company has a team of over 7,000 physician editors - specialists in their domain - who comb through evidenced based research and present it in a unified way, said Yaw Fellin VP of products and solutions for Wolters Kluwer Health's Clinical Effectiveness team.
Data, such as for drug databases and patient engagement solutions, is critical to value-based care, which at its crux is about aligning incentives, Fellin said. The technology to power the payer, provider and patient relationship is critical to improving health and outcomes, and to the transition from volume to value.
Wolters Kluwer mission is to improve health and outcomes by providing clinical decision-support resources.
For more, listen to Fellin's conversation with Susan Morse, executive editor of Healthcare Finance News.
Talking Points:
- Wolters Kluwer's UpToDate clinical practice product is accessed by physicians 1,200 times a minute as they make treatment decisions.
- It's impossible for physicians to stay informed of the latest medical developments and at times, the evidence isn't clear. Clinical decision support shifts through competing sources of evidence.
- Value-based care structures tend to employ a care-team approach to support the best outcome for patients.
- The provider-payer conversation requires evidenced-based content and a holistic approach.
- AI has a role in making their processes simpler and easier, but currently it has gaps that makes it not ready for prime time
- There are accelerations in value-based care. Reports have shown a 15% growth rate, but it's moving more slowly than people hoped or envisioned.
- As if often cited, CMS wants the majority of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries to be in value-based care by 2030.
- Value-based care synergies are seen differently through the lens of payers, especially those that have bought up physician practices.
