As CEO of health IT company Augmedix, Manny Krakaris knows how much AI can benefit clinicians. He also knows its current limitations.
"AI's been overhyped," Krakaris said of recent buzz around generative AI. "Technology can do the heavy lifting but it still needs someone with expertise to provide that last mile, 'the sanity check.'"
Krakaris will present at a panel at HIMSS24 focused on the clinician experiences using generative artificial intelligence in acute and ambulatory care settings.
He will be joined by Aashima Gupta, global director, Healthcare Strategy and Solutions, Google Cloud and Vikesh Tahiliani, vice president, Care Transformation and Innovation at HCA Healthcare.
"We're in a partnership," Krakaris said. "We'll talk about the partnership. Google has helped establish the data lake for HCA. We feed that through APIs into the data lake at HCA."
Google's large language model was used in conjunction with other LLMs in the technology stack.
The speakers will discuss advancements to bring genAI to HCA and to recommend steps that healthcare organizations should take to get the best ROI for their technology investments.
They'll also talk about the value of structured data that can support the medical note to prevent denials that affect reimbursement.
Augmedix is in the business of ambient medical documentation and data services for hospitals, physician practices and telemedicine practitioners.
"I think the key is, as a service provider, you have to meet the customer where the customer is," Krakaris said. "It's being able to address the breadth of need from full service to self service. I think it will be the critical differentiator between succeeding or not."
"Revolutionizing Clinician Experiences: Implementing The Power of GenAI in Health Systems" is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 13, from 4-5 p.m., Room W207C at HIMSS24 in Orlando. Learn more and register.
