Humana will be opening 10 new CenterWell clinics in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas throughout this year, which the insurer said will mark its debut in the northern parts of the state. The first two centers are slated to have their grand openings on February 1 and 2, respectively.
CenterWell Senior Primary Care is a senior-focused, value-based care provider. Together with its sister brand, Conviva Care Center, CenterWell delivers care to seniors in more than 220 centers in 11 states, and has plans to open 30 to 50 new centers each year through 2025.
"The Dallas-Fort Worth area continues its rapid growth, and a good portion of that growth is in the senior population," said Sue Lamb, market vice president for Dallas-Fort Worth. "We are just thrilled to be entering this market right now."
WHAT'S THE IMPACT?
All new CenterWell Senior Primary Care locations in Fort Worth, Dallas and the Mid-Cities area will be staffed by board-certified physicians, nurses and behavioral health specialists. Patients will also have access to clinical pharmacists and referral specialists who have been specially trained to treat the senior population, Humana said.
In addition to its healthcare offerings, CenterWell facilities include activity centers for local seniors.
Other centers with planned openings this year include Redbird, Arlington, South Garland, Grand Prairie, North Richland Hills, Richardson and CenterWell Northwest Dallas. Details will be released later in the year.
The new facilities are planning to hire around 100 employees in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and all positions offer competitive salaries and benefits, said Humana. CenterWell is looking to fill a number of positions, including primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, certified coders and training consultants, among others.
The Primary Care Organization of Humana, which includes CenterWell Senior Primary Care, serves more than 240,000 members from many different Medicare Advantage health plans, as well as some patients who have original Medicare.
THE LARGER TREND
The expansion of primary care services by nontraditional providers has been ongoing. Pharmacy companies, insurers and others are competing against hospitals and physician practices for primary care and the growing senior market.
Walmart recently announced it was planning the expansion of 16 clinics in Florida in 2023. Services will vary by location, but will typically include primary care, labs, X-ray and EKG, behavioral health, and dental and community health services.
Humana is eyeing a number of markers for CenterWell expansion in the coming year, including the new markets of Tidewater and Richmond, Virginia; Biloxi, Gulfport and Jackson, Mississippi; Lake Charles and Lafayette, Louisiana; Las Vegas, Nevada; Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina; Myrtle Beach and Columbia, South Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee; and yet-to-be-determined locations in Indiana.
Exact locations and opening dates will be determined later, but CenterWell's goal is to open all of the centers by the end of the year.
