New York-based Northwell Health is partnering with Avizia on enterprise technology to support and expand on their telehealth services, the health system announced today.

Avizia, a telehealth solution provider, marked the close of its funding round with the partnership, bringing the total number of invested Series A capital to $18 million.

Northwell's strategy is to align its telehealth infrastructure, encompassing 21 hospitals and more than 550 outpatient practices throughout the New York metropolitan area. This alignment will include physician offices, imaging centers, laboratories, same-day surgical centers, skilled nursing facilities, home care, emergency medical and air ambulance services.

Among the telehealth applications already in place at Northwell is an electronic intensive care unit program, including subspecialty neuro-critical care coverage. The health system also manages a telestroke program that allows neurologists to evaluate stroke patients quickly when they arrive in the hands of an emergency medicine team.

Northwell's goal is to expand on both of those capabilities. The system also provides telemonitoring services for home-care patients, using tablets and Bluetooth devices to monitor vital signs and record symptom data.

Additionally, the health giant will be using other Avizia technologies to enable providers across its network to consult with each other virtually, and allow patients to receive more convenient virtual care.

More than 400 healthcare systems throughout 37 countries are currently utilizing Avizia telehealth technologies.
