Vassar Brothers Medical Center breaks ground on $500 million patient pavilion
New patient pavilion includes trauma center with 66 patient rooms, modernized operating suites, critical care unit and helipad, system says.
Health Quest's flagship hospital, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, has broken ground on a $500 million construction project that will yield a new 696,000-square-foot patient pavilion officials hope will provide a better healing environment for its patients.
With a building design meant to reflect the slow-moving curve of the neighboring Hudson River, the patient pavilion includes a spacious lobby, an emergency department and trauma center with 66 treatment rooms, modern operating suites, a 30-bed critical care unit, 264 private patient rooms, a rooftop helistop, a 300-seat conference center and a café. It pavilion will provide enhanced operational efficiencies, according to the hospital.
During construction, the public can get a firsthand look at what the interior of the final building will look like at the Prototype Experience, which is a life-size, realistic model of medical/surgical and critical care patient rooms, as well as nurse care centers in the new pavilion, on the campus of the medical center at 60 Livingston St.
The patient pavilion is expected to open in early 2019.
