Geisinger, St. Elizabeth Healthcare among winners of HFMA 2106 MAP awards for revenue cycle

The award recognizes health systems, hosptials and physician practices that have excelled in meeting industry standard revenue cycle benchmarks.

Five hospital systems, five individual hospitals and three physician practices have been named 2016 winners of the MAP Award for High Performance in Revenue Cycle by the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

The award recognizes providers that have excelled in meeting industry standard revenue cycle benchmarks -- called "MAP Keys." They've also implemented the patient-centered recommendations and best practices embodied in HFMA's Healthcare Dollars and Sense initiatives, and achieved a high level of patient satisfaction.

Nearly 170 facilities began the application process for this year's award.

Winning health systems this year include: AtlantiCare Health System in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pennsylvania; Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico; St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, Kentucky; and Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics in Tyler, Texas.

"We are pleased that both Geisinger and AtlantiCare were honored again by HFMA for high performance in revenue cycle, particularly for our efforts to meet the needs of our patients," said Kevin Brennan, executive vice president of finance, chief financial officer of Geisinger Health System in an email. "We strive to do the best by our patients and this award reflects upon our efforts to implement patient-centered financial practices, resulting in a proven patient financial experience."

Winning individual hospitals include:Lakeland Hospitals Niles and St. Joseph St. in Joseph, Michigan; Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts; Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota; Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama; and St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Physician practices honored by the award are ENT and Allergy Associates in Tarrytown, New York; Privia Medical Group in Arlington, Virginia; and the Warren Clinic in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Winners will be honored at the upcoming HFMA Annual National Institute in Las Vegas.
