Intermountain Healthcare names A. Marc Harrison incoming CEO
Harrison most recently held the position of chief of International Business Development for Cleveland Clinic.
Intermountain Healthcare has selected A. Marc Harrison, MD, 52, as the new president and CEO when Charles W. Sorenson, 64, retires on October 15, 2016, according to the Board of Trustees.
Harrison most recently held positions as chief of International Business Development for Cleveland Clinic, headquartered in Ohio, and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which is a multi-specialty hospital and part of Mubadala Healthcare's network of world-class healthcare facilities.
At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he assembled a 3,500 member multi-national workforce and oversaw all aspects of clinical and business operations for the new medical campus, which cared for patients from 31 countries in its first 10 months of operations.

Earlier roles included serving as chief medical operations officer for Cleveland Clinic where he was responsible for a broad range of clinical operations worldwide, and as chairman of Pediatric Critical Care.
"We conducted a national search and were very pleased at the high level of interest in the position from talented leaders within Intermountain and around the country," says Intermountain Board Chair Scott Anderson.
Harrison earned an undergraduate degree at Haverford College and a medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School. He completed a residency and an internship in pediatric critical care through the University of Utah School of Medicine, working primarily in the critical care units of Intermountain's Primary Children's Hospital.

His wife, Mary Carole Harrison, served as the chief resident in the same program. Marc Harrison later received a masters of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and completed additional study in management at Harvard Business School.
He will assume the helm when Sorenson retires as president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare on October 15, 2016.
Sorenson will continue with Intermountain as founding director of the Intermountain Healthcare Leadership Institute, which is expected to open in 2018.
Intermountain Healthcare is a Utah-based, not-for-profit system of 22 hospitals, 185 clinics, a Medical Group with about 1,300 employed physicians, a health plans division called SelectHealth, and other health services.
