The new ratings are based on results tied to 64 measures that gauge care, readmissions, patient safety, financial management and imaging.
Despite concerns over methodology from major medical organizations, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Wednesday released its new Overall Star Ratings for U.S. hospitals. Unlike previous star ratings that focused solely on patient experience, the new ratings are based on results tied to 64 measures that gauge care, readmissions, patient safety, financial management and imaging, among others.

Groups like the American Hospital Association had hoped CMS would push back the release in order to address concerns that teaching hospitals and those serving low-income areas would be unfairly penalized since the methodology does not account for those socioeconomic factors. However, CMS said the consumer need for transparency is too pressing. CMS had already delayed the release to gather feedback from healthcare providers.
Overall, only 102 hospitals earned five stars, while the bulk of facilities earned either three or four stars.
The below list shows every U.S. hospital that received a rating in this latest release. It is searchable and sortable by name, state postal code and city.
