Hospital Sisters Health System cuts 85 jobs at four hospitals as outpatient wins over patients

Hospital Sisters Health System has cut 85 jobs at four of its Wisconsin hospitals and put a hold on new hires due to shifts in how patients are accessing care.
In a statement, HSHS Eastern Wisconsin Division President and CEO Therese Pandl said the decision was in response to high-deductible plans causing many patients to postpone their care, and technology that allows more people to receive care in an outpatient setting.
The cuts affect St. Vincent Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls. The eliminated positions are mostly non-clinical, and the system said it hoped to place the affected employees in open positions elsewhere in the health system.

HSHS is addressing its labor costs through a combination of attrition and a reduction in its workforce.
"This is never an easy decision, but we are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients," said Prandl. "We have watched the industry change over the past few years and feel that a rebalancing of the workforce is necessary at this time so that we may provide the communities we serve with high-quality, Franciscan healthcare today and into the future."
