Henry Ford Health touts record $61 million in 2016 donations
Donations included 10 seven-figure gifts, as well as largest ever individual gift of $20 million to help fund new cancer center.

Detroit's Henry Ford Health set a system record with $61 million in cash donations, pledges and planned gifts, also known as deferred gifts, in 2016, the most in their 101-year history.
The donations included 10 seven-figure gifts, which will be used for initiatives like hospital laboratory improvements, research, clinical trials and innovative patient care, the system said in a statement.

Henry Ford said one $6 million gift will be used to expand and enhance Henry Ford Hospital's cardiology labs, including new heart catheterization lab, vascular operation room and the remodeling of two frequently used electrophysiology labs with newly advanced technology.
"This expansion and these improvements will help us meet the needs of patients seeking treatments and procedures not offered at other hospitals in southeast Michigan," said Henry Kim, MD, Division Head of Cardiology at Henry Ford Health System.

Additionally, 2016 brought the largest individual gift in the system's history of $20 million, which was given by Detroit businessman Mort Harris in honor of his late wife Brigitte. The gift is part of a $40 million package that will help fund Henry Ford's new Detroit cancer building, set to open in 2019.
Henry Ford Health provides roughly $400 million in uncompensated care annually, the system said.
