The New Jersey Hospital Association has named Cathleen Bennett their next president and CEO. She will replace Betsy Ryan, who has led the association for almost 10 years.

Bennett will assume her new role on Nov. 9, NJHA said in a statement. She is the current New Jersey Department of Health commissioner.

In the organization's 99-year history, Bennett will be the sixth president and CEO. The association's membership is comprised of includes nearly 400 hospital, health system and post-acute care members.

Bennett was appointed to her current post in 2015 by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, overseeing a $1.6 billion budget and a staff of 1,200. Before that she served as the department's chief information officer. She has a law degree from The Dickinson School of Law, and a master's degree in government administration from University of Pennsylvania.

"We know this is a critical time for our industry and the Association, and Cathy does not shy away from the challenge," said Amy Mansue, NJHA's incoming board chair and president of the southern region for RWJBarnabas Health.
