UCLA Health Sciences gets $20 million gift to fuel expansion
Donation lauded by UCLA Health CEO as transformative for the aspiring physicians who will train in their hospitals.

UCLA Health Sciences announced that it has received a $20 million commitment to advance its surgical capabilities.
The gift from Eugene and Maxine Rosenfeld will enable the expansion and revitalization of UCLA Health's learning resource center, including the UCLA Simulation Center. The new Eugene & Maxine Rosenfeld Hall will also house the Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology and provide a new state-of-the-art space for training medical students, the system said.
The new hall will allow for mock clinical experiences, surgical and procedural simulation, and interprofessional emergency and hospital team training through things like work with "virtual patients," computer simulations to virtual reality to high-tech mannequins, all under one roof.
"This transformative investment in the continuous training of future and practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals will prepare them to meet the challenges of modern medicine," said John Mazziotta, MD, CEO of UCLA Health.
Rosenfeld Hall is located across the street from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, which includes UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, well-situated for the physicians, residents, nurses and clinical researchers who will train there.
The gift is part of the $4.2 billion UCLA Centennial Campaign, which is scheduled to conclude in December 2019 during UCLA's 100th anniversary year. So far, the school has raised $3.7 billion of that goal through donations from almost 182,000 donors.
