Healthcare jobs to surge faster than any other sector through 2026, Glassdoor says
The industry is on track to generate more than 1.1 million new jobs by 2026, spurred in part by demand for nurses.
Healthcare has its sights set on the future, and that future appears to be bright, at least jobs-wise. A new Glassdoor report shows that home health and professional care aids represent the top job growth area through 2026.
IMPACT
Overall, the healthcare sector is on track to generate more than 1.1 million new jobs by 2026, topping the list of rapidly-expanding industries. Demand for registered nurses alone with create 437,000 jobs.
Nursing assistants and medical assistants weren't too far behind, as they're projected to create 164,000 and 184,600 new jobs, respectively.
With technology becoming ubiquitous in healthcare, tech-related jobs will increase -- especially since the projections include 253,400 new software developer jobs in the same timeframe.
THE TREND
There is, however, some trepidation about technology, particularly artificial intelligence -- which, while beneficial, sometimes stokes fears that machines will be taking over people's jobs.
A Pew Research Center survey showed that more than 70 percent of Americans are "somewhat" or "very" worried about that prospect.
Healthcare experts who specialize in AI are less concerned, stressing that even automation technology requires a human touch to be effective.
