OptumServe awarded two contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs
Company will provide telehealth lifestyle coaching and disability exams to veterans.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded OptumServe two major contracts for 2019 to provide telephone-based lifestyle coaching and medical disability exams.
The virtual lifestyle contract covers coaching for diet, exercise, stress and alcohol use for eligible veterans receiving care from the VA at 20 medical centers and their corresponding community-based outpatient clinics.
A qualified lifestyle coach will provide scheduled calls to veterans enrolled in the program. Participants will also be able to call the coaching lines outside of scheduled appointments.
OptumServe's Logistics Health, Inc., was one of the companies awarded three U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs contracts on November 20 to provide medical disability examinations to veterans and separating service members in Regions 1, 2 and 3, representing 39 states. LHI has been supporting the VA since 2011 through previous versions of the contract.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Optum, the technology-enabled health services business that is part of UnitedHealth Group, has just about every major payer as a client.
OptumServe is the federal government health unit of Optum.
And virtual health is gaining in popularity as a more efficient, convenient and less expensive care delivery method as the government expands its uses for reimbursement.
THE TREND
Optum and OptumServe have a long history of serving military service members, veterans and their families. OptumServe, through LHI, recently opened a clinic in New York City to provide health evaluations, monitoring exams, diagnostic services and treatment for survivors of the 9/11 attacks residing within the metropolitan area as part of the World Trade Center Health Program.
In August, OptumRx secured a piece of a $50 billion government IT contract to assist federal agencies in soliciting integrated information technology solutions.
ON THE RECORD
"OptumServe is honored for the opportunity to continue and expand our health services to our nation's veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation," said Patty Horoho, CEO of OptumServe.
