BMC Hospital to buy Bayonne Medical Center in New Jersey

BMC takes on financially distressed ambulatory surgery centers and makes them viable, company says.

BMC Hospital has signed a letter of intent with CarePoint Health to purchase one of the three hospitals CarePoint operates in New Jersey, Bayonne Medical Center.

The move will strengthen Bayonne as an acute care facility, BMC said.

The financial terms were not disclosed.

WHY THIS MATTERS

BMC's hospital team has long specialized in reviving financially distressed ambulatory surgery centers and making them viable for their communities, BMC said by statement.

The company will offer employment to current employees, keep the terms and conditions now in effect and voluntarily recognize the unions, said BMC President Wayne Hatami.

THE LARGER TREND

BMC is comprised of Hatami, Anthony Degradi and Feliks Kogan, who are part-owners of multiple ambulatory surgery centers in New York and New Jersey.

ON THE RECORD

"Bayonne is the kind of closely-knit community we love to serve," Hatami said.  "We're looking to engage with the Center's leadership and employees, its unions, the mayor and community, and work closely with the doctors and nurses to ensure that Bayonne gets the quality acute care hospital it needs and deserves."
