Private equity firms acquire hospitalist practice management company

Three healthcare-focused private equity firms have acquired Eagle Hospital Physicians, an Atlanta-based practice management company for hospitalist physician groups.

Eagle provides hospitalist contract services, telemedicine and hospitalist temporary staffing to its hospital partners, primarily in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Highlander Partners, a Dallas-based investment firm, and Flexpoint Ford, a Chicago-based company, are joined in the transaction by Health Enterprise Partners, a growth equity fund focused on the healthcare industry. The three firms have committed capital to support Eagle's future growth initiatives, said Robert Young, MD, Eagle's founder and current CEO.

Eagle has named Brent McCarty as its new chairman and CEO. McCarty previously served as president and chief operating officer of Accuro Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a Dallas-based provider of healthcare revenue management solutions.

Young will continue to serve on the Eagle's Board of Directors. Mac McCormick, senior medical director with Eagle since 2003, will continue in his role as Eagle's chief operating officer.

"Eagle has a great history of providing powerful hospital solutions by developing and managing hospitalist programs," said McCarty. "Moving forward, we're uniquely positioned to help our hospital partners meet their inpatient physician service needs. We will be making focused investments in people, process and technology, including improving and developing quality measurement systems and focusing on telemedicine and other specialty lines of business."
