Healthcare adds 38,000 jobs in January
Labor force hits 14.9 million in the month, compared to roughly 14.5 million in January 2014.
The healthcare industry added more than 38,000 jobs in January, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday, with gains in ambulatory services once again leading the sector.
Overall, the U.S. economy added 257,000 jobs in the month, as the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 5.7 percent.
Healthcare’s labor force hit 14.9 million in January, compared to roughly 14.5 million in January 2014, on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The effects of industry reform also continued to show in healthcare hiring, as the ambulatory services division outpaced hospitals when it came to job gains. Physician’s offices added the most with 13,000 news jobs, lifting the total workforce to 2.5 million. Hospitals, however, added 10,000 jobs, increasing their workforce to 4.8 million.
Outpatient care centers also grew in the month by 1,600 jobs, employing a total of 728 thousand.
