98 hospitals earn Healthgrades awards for both safety and patient experience

While nearly 1,000 U.S. hospitals recently earned awards for patient experience or patient safety from ratings agency Healthgrades, only 98 earned honors in both categories.

Healthcare Finance analyzed Healthgrades’ 2015 Patient Safety Excellence Awards and the 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Awards to see which hospitals showed up on both. The resulting 98 hospitals hail from 37 different states.

Healthgrades based the patient experience award on 2013 survey responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems questionnaire. Hospitals with scores in the top 15 percent earned awards.

Meanwhile, Healthgrades based the patient safety award on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data on core patient safety indicators from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality between 2011 and 2013.

While Healthgrades used different methodology to come up with these lists, the 98 hospitals below represent the few who excelled in both patient experience and safety, two very different areas of hospital management.
