Mark Ehalt, senior director of revenue cycle operations at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Helen Del Sardo, UPMC's director of revenue cycle business operations, recently discussed a new system for implementing effective staffing models.
"UPMC has leveraged industrial engineering practices and economies of scale to implement volume-based staffing through a centralized patient access infrastructure and a 'floater pool' of versatile staff," they said.
Translation: They've found a way to reduce overtime costs and make the patient experience more consistent.
