The Healthcare Supply Chain Association has appointed veteran supply chain exec Curt Miller executive director of its Committee for Healthcare eStandards, the association announced Thursday.

Miller previously served for 10 years as chief information officer for Amerinet, where he was responsible for the company's information systems strategy, application development, network infrastructure, data management and unified communications.

HSCA President and CEO Todd Ebert said in a statement that Miller's record and expertise "make him the ideal leader for CHeS," and should help move the healthcare industry "toward a more interconnected and efficient supply chain -- ultimately improving provider operations and patient care."

Before Amerinet, Miller served as director of group purchasing at Vector Healthsystems. He holds a master's degree in business administration in finance and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Rhode Island.

"Adoption of comprehensive healthcare e-standards will make device, provider, and patient data accessible and interoperable across systems," said Miller, "which will make it easier to share information to help different entities -- providers, manufacturers, distributors and the like --  make critical care decisions. Working with CHeS as its executive director is a natural continuation of my previous efforts to help improve the healthcare supply chain."

The goal of CHeS is to improve accuracy, efficiency and safety by applying electronic standards to the supply chain.

Ebert thanked outgoing CHeS head Frank Moore for his efforts to help move the industry forward.
