Aetna launches value-based model with Baptist Health & St. Vincent's HealthCare

The plan is part of the insurer's goal to increase the number of payments going to providers who practice value-based care from 40 to 70 percent.

Aetna has launched a new value-based commercial health plan with Baptist Health & St. Vincent's HealthCare in Florida, the company announced this week.

The new Aetna Whole HealthSM focuses on wellness and disease prevention, Aetna said. It is available to fully insured and self-insured employer groups with 51 or more employees in Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties in Florida.

Enrollees will have access to the network of Baptist Health & St. Vincent's HealthCare physicians, hospitals and outpatient facilities. St. Vincent's HealthCare is part of Ascension, ine of  the nation's largest Catholic nonprofit health systems.

The plan features enhanced coordination between doctors and other care providers, a care management approach aimed at improving the patient experience, and claims it will lower overall out-of-pocket costs for members who see providers in- network.

The plan is part of Aetna's goal to increase the number of payments going to providers who practice value-based care from the current 40 percent to 75 percent by 2020.

Other collaborations include a commercial accountable care organization and the health plan AetnaWhole Health-Memorial Hermann with Memorial Hermann in Texas and an ACO with Banner Health in Phoenix.

"Aetna is aligning with physicians and hospitals in the Jacksonville region to advance the delivery of healthcare," said Christopher Ciano, president of Aetna's operations in Florida. "Our patient-centered collaboration emphasizes accountability for health outcomes and focuses on the quality of care provided."
